SVA Imports, settled in an old petrol station near Dover, is well known from either their 350Z drift car, 1200hp r34 drag car or their 900hp time attack Evo. Sitting in the passenger seat in Tim Lust’s yellow Supra, being followed by Jeff, Jay and Roley, we were heading for SVA to get Tim’s Supra mapped to its full potential.

We left early and had only a few traffic jams. After a quick stop to fill up the Supra and fuel ourselves we continued our way.

We arived early at the undersea-tunnel that would lead us to England but we were able to get on a train leaving earlier than we booked for. After having the sea go over us and chatting about nothing for about 35 minutes we arrived at Folkestone. Dover was only a short drive away.

SVA welcomed us around 11:00. However, they were getting their hands dirty on another beast; the Time Attack Evo. We had to wait for an hour and a half but no one would mind if that time were to be filled up with roaring sounds of a hardcore Mitsubishi.

Like I said, we had the opportunity to admire the Time Attack Evo. As usual with such a car, it has many custom modifications. For me it was very interesting to talk with the owner about the car and certain mods. For instance the unusual cooling system they came up with and the needed mods to make it work and improve it.

Preparation of Tim’s Supra was done so it was time to get the Evo out and the Supra in.

After waiting for quite some time and driving slow for too many miles, the break-in in procedure was finished and the only thing needed was a remap. Well, we hoped that was the only thing. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case. Fuel pressure was dropping above 6000 rpm so it was running a bit lean at high rpm. Time for a double fuel pump? Perhaps! Tim is working on a solution at this moment.

Altough this was a setback, Tim is finally able to floor it. To keep a safe map, the boost was lowered with 0.2 bar. So obviously it has a little less juice than before, but it still goes like crazy. I’m pretty sure Tim can’t wait until the fuel system is sorted and it can be remapped again to get the full performance out of it.

We had some after talk in the train before we began our final trip back to Jeff’s place. With 23 hours this was a long but great day. We learned, had great fun and Tim finaly got to try out is toy. Thank you guys for the trip and especially Tim for letting me drive shotgun with you!

When I started at my first full time job three years ago I needed a car because getting there by public transport is almost impossible. I looked around, did some test drives and ultimately I bought a car nobody associates with a young guy, a Toyota Yaris. The Yaris, also known as the Vitz in Japan or the Echo in North-American countries, has the reputation of being a car for the elderly people.

The week after I bought my car I joined the Dutch Yaris Club and I started modifying my car to my liking, which is not so easy with a Yaris because there are almost no aftermarket parts available except some plastic fantastic ugly bodykits and lights. So I was quite surprised when I discovered there was a big championship with the Yaris from 2001 to 2006 with almost 30 drivers participating. This was called the Yaris Cup, and the cars are called the Toyota Yaris Cup car. Some of these cars ended up in private hands and a few of these owners are also a member of the Yaris Club. When I read that one owner would bring his car to the Japanese Autosport Festival in Zandvoort I immediately contacted him and asked if I could take some pictures.

This particular car is a original Yaris Cup car. It was driven by Sheila Verschuur and it’s now owned by Martin Goedemans, a former Yaris Cup driver. From a distance the car looks like a normal Yaris, it doesn’t even have a bodykit fitted, but from up close a few differences become clear. Some of the bodywork is made from plastic instead of metal, there’s only one windscreen wiper on the front and the one on the back is completely removed.

On the inside the differences from a normal car are more clear. A complete FIA-approved roll cage is fitted, the interior is completely stripped and the driver sits in a Sparco bucket seat. Martin made some changes to the heating and ventilation of this car, because the Yaris Cup engine had a tendency to overheat Martin decided to funnel the air from the heater that normally warms the foot wells to the outside of the car. This way he can turn the heater up for extra cooling when the engine temperatures rises without turning the inside of the car into an oven.

In all Yaris models except the new 2012 model the gauge cluster is mounted in the centre of the dash. This works remarkably well in daily traffic but on the track you want some information directly in your viewfield, so the Yaris Cup is fitted with a cluster from Stack. It has a big tachometer with a LCD-screen for things like temperatures, oil pressure.

Under the bonnet I expected to see the 1.5 litre 1NZ-FE engine from a T-Sport model, but the Yaris Cup used a 1300cc 2NZ-FE. From the outside the engine looks remarkably the same as the engine in my own Yaris, it even has the plastic engine cover and the stock manifolds. There are some differences however, it produces 115 BHP instead of the normal 87 thanks to more aggressive cams, stronger valves and valve springs and a special ECU. This enables the engine to rev to 7400rpm, almost 1000 revs more than a stock engine. The gearbox has much shorter gear ratios than the normal Toyota C56 boxes used in a road-going Yaris, this limits the top speed but the car accelerates very, very quick.

This car is not a show queen, it isn’t road legal and Martin built it for track usage. At the end of the day Martin drove for 20 minutes on the track for the first time with this Yaris. He started a bit careful, of course, with some slow laps and some spectators were wondering what that little car was doing on the track. The other cars like a Lotus Elise and a Subaru Impreza looked incredibly fast compared to the tiny Yaris.

That changed when Martin decided to do some hot laps. Suddenly he was not only keeping up with the other cars, but also overtaking them. It still didn’t look spectacular, I expected to see some nervous fish tailing when braking hard at the end of the straight due to the very light and empty rear of the car but it looked very stable and no screaming tyres in the corners. But even without all the drama you could see it was very fast. In the Yaris Cup championship the drivers managed to do a lap at Zandvoort in about 2 minutes and 9 seconds. Considering most of the cars in the Dutch Time Attack championship with comparable lap times are having much more horsepower we can call this quick, very quick.

Most of the times when a factory-backed championship ends the cars are scrapped. Sometimes a few of them end up in private hands but when spare parts are getting more and more difficult to obtain most of these are scrapped too. I did some searching and I discovered that at least five of the Cup cars are still in existence and every single one of them is still used as a track tool. Because the championship ended six years ago, and thus the parts supply, it’s quite remarkable to see a Cup car return to racing and it would be fun to see Martin again in the near future while he pushes this little Yaris to the limits on the track.

Every time I visit the Japanese Autosport Festival I’m struck by the enormous diversity of cars showing up. It ranges from a completely stock Toyota Aygo to serious track tools. People are modifying their cars in various ways, and although the result may not be your cup of tea it is the thing that defines our hobby.

Most of the cars can be classified as either a show car with large body kits and custom paint jobs or a performance car, but sometimes a car doesn’t fit in either of those categories. A car in Bosozuku style is rather rare here in The Netherlands, and especially when it’s a old ‘80 SS80. Two-speed automatic, leather bucket seats, external oil cooler, fender mirrors and of course a huge vertical exhaust pipe at the back. I love it!

Amateur drag racing is quite popular here in Holland and although the sport is almost non-existent in Japan it is mostly done here with Japanese cars. Many racers use Honda Civics, they’re dirt cheap to buy and there’s a wide range of tuning parts available for them.

Some of the Honda’s are tuned to over 500 HP on the front wheels and it can be quite challenging to turn that amount of power into speed instead of tyre smoke. That’s why some people choose the more expensive option of using a AWD car like these two generations of a rally icon, the Subaru Impreza.

Time Attack is becoming more and more popular, with almost 70 competitors in four different classes. Again most of these cars are from Japanese makers, apart from the occasional German car, but when I was walking over the paddock I noticed something different. A Ferrari 360 Modena waiting in line for scrutineering behind another rare car, a Honda NSX. Seeing a prancing horse in real life is always a magical sight.

Both the NSX and the Ferrari do indeed compete in the Time Attack competition, although the Ferrari was no match for the other cars in its class, like Bruce Morris’ Skyline from the UK. This Skyline is sporting not one but two Wangan Warriors stickers and by the rules of Sticker Tuning this gives him an extra 50 hp, at least.

In the lower classes like Semi Pro the cars are a lot cheaper and a lot less powerful. But that doesn’t mean the drivers aren’t pushing their cars and themselves to, and sometimes over, the limits. Mechanical breakdowns are not an uncommon sight, especially in the lowest class where most people race on a tight budget, but luckily most of the problems are small and easily repairable.

The marshals were busy rescuing drivers after off-track excursions. When I was standing near the Tarzan corner at the end of the straight I saw more than one car miss its braking point and going into the gravel. Luckily not a single car had a serious crash at JAF and no serious breakdowns occurred, apart from one of the NSX’s which got a problem with its fuel system.

Between the Time Attack sessions a few drivers from The Netherlands and the UK were giving drift demos. Although the Dutch drifting competition, the NL Drift Series, is quite big the sport is almost unknown to the general public. Giving a demonstration for a large crowd is a good way to show people how spectacular the sport is and attract more visitors to the competitions rounds.

Talking about people, there were a lot of those at JAF! A big event like this is for a big part meeting friends and talking to people about the latest modifications to their cars. I think I spend as much time talking as I do taking photographs.

When you look around you can spot funny things too, like people sleeping. This is not an uncommon sight by the way, as some people need to drive hundreds of kilometres to Zandvoort for JAF so they have to leave very early. This particular guy had a can of energy drink on his dashboard, and I’m still puzzled about how someone can sleep after drinking that stuff. I stay awake for 30 hours straight after drinking only a few sips of that stuff.

Time Attack races are starting from the pit lane here in The Netherlands, and I always try to visit the pit lane right before the start of a race. The mood in the pits rapidly changes from the moment the cars enter to pit lane to line up until the start. Seeing mechanics franticly running around doing the last checks, while the drivers wait with tense faces. Their looks quickly change to bored while waiting in line to concentrated right before the start.

After a race everybody gets his or her phone to update their Facebook status or send messages to friends and relatives. My phone buzzed all day with Facebook updates or Whatsapp messages before and after a race and I send some messages about strange sounds heard from the cars back to the mechanics during the race.

Besides the visitors and the drivers there are more people that deserve our attention, the crew for example. Without traffic managers, the people manning the food stalls and countless other people the entire event would be in chaos. And let’s not forget the marshals, medics and fire fighters. They’re crucial for the safety and rescue of the drivers, something they unfortunately had to do at JAF. A car caught fire but the driver managed to reach the pit lane where the marshals and medics not only saved his life but also his car from burning to the ground.

And last but not least, the promo girls. There were a lot of them at JAF for various companies and of course as grid girls. I always take a step back when a group of promo girls appears, because it’s very funny to watch people’s reactions to them. Some people take pictures, some ignore them and girls are giving their boyfriends angry looks when they’re staring at the promo girls for too long.

Was JAF 2012 a perfect event? No, certainly not. I heard a lot of people complain about various things like the overcrowded club paddock, drag racing through the crowd and very expensive food and drinks. But next year I’m going to visit JAF again, because it’s one of the few events here in Holland that combines almost everything I love about cars and races. Goodbye JAF, see you next year!

Hi, my name is Alex and I’m a 25 year old guy from The Netherlands. Since I was little I’m fascinated by science and engineering. Instead of playing soccer or joining the boy scouts I went to a little hobby club in my hometown where I built stuff like a 1:10 scale model of a boat driven by an electric motor from an alarm clock. It almost sank on its maiden voyage due to water entering the hull via the shaft tunnel which prompted me to start building a working model of one of those big floating cranes they use to salvage sunken ships.

Cars always attracted my attention and I had a huge collection of those small Matchbox cars. My favorite one was a model from an AW11 MR2 with weird plastic suspension that I took apart many times in an effort to understand how it worked. I later upgraded that car with rubber tires from one of my dad’s 25-year old Dinky Toy truck which looked ridiculous but greatly improved the handling on the smooth wooden floor in my parents’ house!

When I grew up I completely skipped the scooters and mopeds, I’ve never ever owned one in my whole life. They lack 2 wheels and computers were way more interesting at that time. I quickly mastered the Art of Overclocking, which is basically the same as engine tuning: Try to get it as fast as you can. It’s amazing what you can achieve with a soldering iron, some resistors and a few bits of wire in terms of speed, smoke and fire. I later moved on to writing software, something I now do for a living.

I bought my first car, a Toyota Yaris, when I was 22 and it got me in the whole car thing again. Because I had a few questions about my Yaris I joined the Dutch Yarisclub and I started visiting meetings and car shows. I had an old digital compact camera at that time which I used to take photos of the work I did on my car, to write tutorials and shoot pictures at meetings. One thing led to another and after another compact camera I bought my first DSLR.

At Automaxx Streetpower 2011 I attempted to shoot cars on the track for the first time. And well, the results sucked. Because some friends and I were planning to go on a petrolhead road trip to the UK and I really wanted some nice pictures of that, I started reading everything I could find about automotive photography. I bought a new lens and when we went on our epic road trip, I tried to bring everything I read in practice. We visited the British Drift Championship and a truck racing event at Donington Park and the Easter Thunderball at Santa Pod and I shot an enormous amount of photos.

When I got home and looked through the pictures, I was pleasantly surprised by the results. But more importantly, it jumpstarted my interest in drifting. After a visit to an event in Denmark with a drift track and some cars of the Scandinavian Drift Series, I decided to contact the Dutch NL Drift Series to ask if I could shoot at their next round. Against all my expectations they said yes and I’m a regular NL Drift Series photographer ever since. I visit almost every round of both the summer and the winter championship and I think you´ll see some coverage of that in the near future.

Although I prefer to shoot cars doing what they’re build for, driving and racing, I occasionally shoot stationary cars. I think I´m a rare breed of photographer because I like to shoot cars that are not the fastest nor the most notable. Those cars are often overlooked but sometimes they can be quite surprising in terms of modifications or performance.

I try to reflect a certain mood or tell a story with a photograph. Using the background can be very important, it’s part of telling the story. What kind of car do you see on the picture? What’s it used for?

Although I almost exclusively shoot automotive stuff I try not to forget the human side of our hobby and I like to include people in a photograph, preferably without them knowing. They can direct the attention of the viewer to parts of the photograph or reflect the mood at the time I pressed the shutter.

I´ve got a strong preference for Japanese cars. Their design philosophy of building cars that just work as reliable and simple as possible is something I, as an engineer, admire. And of course they build some of the most iconic cars and engines of my generation. Everybody even remotely interested in cars recognizes the codenames 2JZ, R34 and JZZ80 or knows what “Type-R” means.
Wangan Warriors is a community built around those Japanese cars, with a strong focus on performance. So when Rens approached me and asked me if I would be interested in writing and photographing for the Wangan Warriors blog I said yes without thinking twice. It’s the only Dutch JDM car community not brand or type-bound and contributing to it will be awesome. I hope we can bring you some great event coverage, car features and other exciting stuff you like to view and read!

Improvement never seem to end in the automotive scene. The Automaxx Streetpower event was the evidence of that perception. Circuit ability seems to be growing to whole other levels and this is only the start of the time attack season. Seeing a Suzuki Baleno rage on the tarmac as if life just doesn’t mean anything to the driver anymore, is a sight we love to whitness at Time Attack races. There are some new competitors showing force and no fear and old veterans returned to settle bussiness. Let’s have a look at some of the Japanese scene representatives at the TT circuit last weekend.

The quality level on the paddock was undeniable. We’ve spotted more stance an quality compared with last years Streetpower event.

This Full Car Tuning Fairlady doesn’t need an introduction anymore does it?

An event isn’t complete without StickerDump present. I heard they have a whole collection Illest and Fatlace clothing coming their way so make sure you’re the first one over there!

He made it! But with no engine. Misha is building up his Impreza as we speak. Jeroentje.nl tuning is putting a lot of effort in this project. They intended to start with this car in the Time Attack but unfortunately it wasn’t ready. Misha hopes to compete in the JAF TA at the Zandvoort circuit at the end of April.

Rising Sun Performance was present with a great team of cars. This is Ians S2000. The last time I saw this yellow beauty it had a complete stripped engine bay ready for a paintjob. Show & Shine could learn a thing or two from this car because it’s cleaner than ever. More of that in a future feature on our blog.

Red devils side by side. These two NSX’s came along with RSP and it was lovely to see them in action on the track. Tom Veruyn raced his heart out in his DC5 as well and got transfered from Pro class to Super pro. We’re looking forward to see him at Zandvoort.

The Honda S2K Endurancecupcar from Verhagen wasn’t able to compete in the finals of the Extreme class. Let’s say technique abandoned them after the warm up.

RP M Vision colleague Dennis Kussendrager is back in action. After some bad luck with his Honda he started in the semi pro class this season. His race ended after some clutch problems. Make sure you check rpmvision.nl for all the time attack news updates.

It has been a long time that I’ve seen Alber Klok jr. on the Dutch tracks. The time attack veteran is back to compete in the super pro class and ended 5th at Streetpower.

Albert wasn’t the only one in action with a 200sx. Bjorn Berkers came along with the Jeroentje.nl team with his S14. A known car in the scene because you’ll probably recognize this was Lennard Wanders former car.

And if these pictures brought you in a Silvia mood, well here is a nice looking s-body we found on the club paddock. A rare sight at this Automaxx event and we love it.

We know that England is well represented on the dutch tracks. We’ve featured the daily car of Simon Bradford a while ago in this article. Over here you see him in action in his track prepared R33 GTST. He ended 7th not bad for a first time at the Assen circuit.

Simon came together with Bruce Morris. They are both competing in all the Time Attack sessions this season so this isn’t the last time you’ll see them in action.

Showoff Imports is finally done with building up their DC5. There is more action to be expected from this typeR in this season.

Neil Robbertson representing SVA Imports with this EVO VI. Looks quite agressive just sitting there. Don’t you agree?

We will certainly follow all the Japanese action this season and show you people what we find out there. Make sure you check this link for the full kwalification list of this past session.

We will not be following this season on our own. Behind every camera hides a light capturist and in this case we are talking about Alex Kamsteeg. We are proud to announce that he is our newest blog crew member and will be covering Japanese car culture and lifestyle for our blog. We welcomed Bas Kuiper as blog photographer as well and they will both properly introduce themselves in the upcoming blogs.
See you in the pitlanes next time!

It has been a long time that we’ve seen the sun on one of our meetings. Luckily, this meeting our beloved fireball was more than present. Wangan Warriors expected around 80 visitors but that number almost dubbled itself. We’ve counted over 140 cars while there were still people arriving at the meeting location. It was nice to see so many enthousiast together and we’ve allready had many reactions about the nice atmosphere and high quality of the cars. That is thanks to all of you out there!

I’m proud of the roadster community in the Netherlands. It’s really growing to higher levels and influences from abroad are inspiring more and more Miata owners over here. Yay or Nay for fenderflares on a roadster?

Or a proper set of Work Equip wheels with no flares? Maybe both, everything is possible.

Let’s take a walk through some stance highlights at the meeting. This Impreza was wearing nice slippers as well.

There was definately no lack of properly lowered Civics.

The proof of that very fact were these two Hondas among a lot of others obviously.

It was hard to find a moment without people admiring this clean Accord. The owner came all the way from Belgium to visit our meeting.

One of the most recognized Fairladys ouf our country. Always clean with excellent fitment.

Where Wangan Warriors is, there is Stickerdump. Always selling the most awesome stickers you can find out there and always present to offer you what you need. Thanks guys!

Allready a known event, DumpD 2012. I’ve seen so many cars with this sticker allready. Make sure you sign up for this event, organized by StickerDUMP. Wangan Warriors is helping the organisation by selecting Japanese cars.

Even some cars which were feature on respected car blogs like Speedhunters showed up. Streetgasm was well represented with Skylines and Evos.

I spoke to quite some people who said that this day showed the true level of Japanese car culture in the Netherlands. I have to say that I couldn’t agree more.

RPM Vision foreman Dennis Kussendrager was present with his time attack prepares S2K. He was also well impressed with the outcome of this meeting. Make sure you check his feature, here.

Freshly imported S15 with a 1JZ underneath the bonnet. You can’t go wrong with that! Nice rear end as well.

R@tch’s rare Suzuki. The Nissan enthusiasts know him from the insane SR20 Sil80 project he’s got going on. This is “just” his car to get round.

Shoes make the man. Rims make the car. I’m glad that car aficionados in The Netherlands are starting to realise that as well!

There’s many of them out there, but they’ve got this special something which never seems to become boring.

We think this picture shows the activity and relaxed atmosphere perfectly!

Fullcartuning also showed up with two of their cars. This very clean Honda Civic and a 350Z on blue Varrstoens.

Classic Datsuns never get old and it’s rather amazing that out of all countries, The Netherlands has got some really mint versions cruising about.

That’s it! We would like to thank everyone for showing up and making this meeting another success. We hope that you, just like us, had a great time and we hope to see you soon at our next meeting.

This is Paul’s new Nissan Silvia S14a.

This is Paul’s new Nissan Silvia S14a. This car was on the market for quite a while and Paul decided to take it under his wing and start his own story with it. I believe that almost everyone who has a passion for the Japanese automotive scene, has a certain weak for drifting. I can’t remember what exactly made me fall in love with the style and flair that goes with it but I guess it’s timeless and magical. Maybe it’s just different from other excisting styles or the common state of affaires in the scene.

The most remarkable thing about the exterior is the large amount of stickers used to decorate this Silvia and make sure it outshines like not other S14. This was the work of the previous owner who also bought Paul’s previous car, his mad slammed S13.

At a distance this car looks pretty clean and tidy but when you take a closer look you’ll see it’s is used and abused. Luckily this is Paul’s motto as well and he bought this car just for that reason. That lack of neatness is just how he likes it.

The ‘I don’t give a crap’ mentality is to be found in every detail of this drift dress. The battery was secured with random stuff you’ll find in any garage.

Underneath the bonnet lies that good old SR20DET upgraded with a Horsham Development Stage1 chip, an Apex Front mount intercooler, Apex’i Blow off valve and many other goodies.

Obviously the welded differential makes shure this is possible so ladies you’re lucky today!

The handling is beeing taken care of as well. With Apex Gen2 Coilovers installed, front and rear strutbraces and Japspeed tension rods this baby has a decent roadability. The 18” wheels are rather tattered as you can see. Paul couldn’t tell me what brand they are so maybe one of you readers out there knows?

This Silvia has a complete Uras S14a conversion bodykit and over here you have a good overall look of that and the large variation of awesome stickers.

These Nismo bucketseats make sure you stay in one place while going sideways. Even the interior is full of stickerbombs and other cool details.

As you can see the Sparco deepsish steering-wheel is quite worn which only means one thing. You can probably guess what, right?

The previous owner also did something odd with the teller console. A hand drawn rev counter with hello kitty smiling towards you is not something you see on a daily basis.

To me this car is pouring with character from every corner. Given that Paul’s state of mind is basically, ‘looking hardcore and not giving a damn about anything else’, I can assure you he will take good care of this S-body and he certainly has good plans with it.

I couldn’t let Paul leave our short meeting without a few Wangan Warriors stickers on his car so here they are. And to anyone out there, feel free to ask one of our clubmembers for some stickers when you see us!

Paul, thank you for your time and I hope you appreciate the spotlight on our blog.

Just before all hell brakes loose in the Japanese automotive scene in the Netherlands, Rising Sun Performance organized a big pre-season meeting. Wintertime is over so we decided to go with a few Wangan Warriors. To be honest I missed going out there, browse around and looking for nice blog material. It has been too long. Not far from where we’ve parked our cars, two imports caught my eye.

These 4 door Integras are cars you don’t see every day or at any random meeting over here. Pretty nice! With or without a wing, what’s your opinion?

Also a car you won’t see very often. Subtle changes like a fancy set of wheels and proper lowering does make it stand out.

Since there was lots of Honda to be found, it sattisfied me to see some other Japanese material as well. This Evo VIII was an example of the variation.

This turbocharged Miata was also in contrast with most of the visitors. I haven’t seen this one before but the personal style and intercooler impressed me the most. Therefore we’ve put a ‘LIKE’ card behind his windsheild wiper.

It’s always nice to see an FD. You can never go wrong with that.

Nor can you go wrong with a S2K and particularly this Time Attack beast.

There definately was some nice stanced cars present. Love those wheels!

Some people have a clear opinion about air suspension. The owner of this 4wd Shuttle is one of them. Statement made!

And his Honda was lowered just perfectly if you ask me. I would love to see a nicely done Shuttle like this on one of our future meetings.

Luckily there is a variation in taste and style. The owner of this wide-body Civic does have air-ride and looks quite clean as well.

The absolute highlights of this meeting were being displayed in the RSP garage. A very, very serious S2000 which will stand its ground on the track.

Last time I saw Tonny’s S2K it was going through some adjustments. Here it’s sitting clean on those SSR LM9 Viennas.

And the NSX that’s quite a phenomenon in The Netherlands. It’s not the first and certainly not the last time you’ll see this beauty coming past.

Every little detail of a Honda NSX is just lovely. I wasn’t suprised to see this one inside the Rising Sun Performance garage.

It was nice to see JDM enthousiasts gathered again after a long cold winter. I was happy to see some fellow Warriors again and some other familiar faces. Still only a few weeks and the season starts again and there is lots to follow for our blog so stay tuned.

At that time we didn’t have any relation [+]

About one year ago, Misha was preparing the large batch of Wangan Warrior stickers at the StickerDump shop to help Inne out. At that time we didn’t have any relation what so ever. He thought we had a pretty cool logo but we both didn’t have a clue that about one year later we would be following his amazing Impreza project for our blog.

Same story applies for Jeroentje.nl. One year ago Misha was working on the famous teambus stickers of Jeroentje Tuning. Again, not knowing that in a short period of time he would be ‘one of the boys’ .

Let’s take you back to the beginning of this project. Misha bought his Subaru from Thijs with whom he was working with at the StickerDump shop. The previous owner participated in the ModBall road rally with this Impreza. When Misha found out that Thijs wanted to sell his car, he immidiately decided to buy it. Eventually things got a little out of hand. By looking at these pictures, you can’t ignore that ‘a little’ is a big understatement.

At first the idea was to convert this four-door Impreza to a trackcar, ready to participate in the Dutch Time Attack series, but shortly after starting Misha got a really good offer for a complete two-door coupe including rollcage. And this deal was so good it was only little more expensive than the cost of a new rollcage for the four-door, he decided to continue the project on this base. The fourdoor is now outside Jeroentje’s shop to be used as a donor car for parts. It looks kinda sad now, but knowing the parts are being used “for a good cause” makes up quite well.

The coupe was going to be fitted with a full 22B bodykit and to fill the wheel wells properly, he decided to fit a little bigger wheels… The left wheel in this picture is not the spare wheel of the car, but it’s the stock wheel size of an Impreza. Right is the size Misha fitted. These wheels are a whopping 18″ x 9,5 wrapped in 275 wide R888 semi-slicks.

The rest of the car got full prepped for race, which included removing most unnecessary body parts, such as the spare wheel well.

The project took an even more serious turn when there were plans made for a build-up of one of the best Subaru engines. He also wanted to adjust the rest of the driving unit such as a dogbox, custom subframe, carbon axle and possibly a dry-sump.

A lot of the work is being done by Jeroen. But everything regarding the engine is in the hands of Mark Verhoeven. Misha and Mark are in contact with eachother for a while now.

Misha even told us that his ex-girlfriend left him and said to him that he loved his car more than he loved her. With that in mind, Misha thinks he’s on the right track with his project because of that. Luckily he can laugh about it, but this is what we call passion. Girlfriends, stop hating!

This Ethanol Content Analyzer also reveals an important aspect of this build. It’s going to run on different mappings, and this unit enables Misha to run on different fuel mixtures. Since E85 isn’t widely available in Holland, this is one handy device.

Their goal is to reach 700bhp and a carweight around 1000kg.

To achieve these goals many parts are replaced with lightweight parts. Think about polyester doors (-20 kg), front bumper, rear bumper, carbon hood, carbon wing, etc. A total weight of 1000kg is very little for an Impreza with all wheel drive, but should be possible, the way Misha is doing this.

Another goal is to finish the car before the first of April to be able to compete in the Dutch Time Attack series of 2012.

This is also a difficult goal, not only for the four-door, but especially for the two-door since that one needs a lot more work and love, but everybody is trying really hard to get everything done in time. The car will be at Time Attack, but in what form…

Follow Misha’s project on our forum and don’t mis out on anything!

Stickerdump does not need an introduction here in the Netherlands. If you’re a regular visitor of automotive events or meetings you’ve probably heard of the name and maybe even bought stuff from their webshop. Stickerdump has been our forum trader and sponsor for over one year now so it was time to pay a visit to their new shop. They’re located on Bospoort 17b in Ede. Let’s take a look inside.

When you enter the shop, you imidiately notice the big white counter with the graffiti style “We love haters” sticker.

The name “Stickerdump” speaks for itself, but not only stickerjunkies are welcome to get their fix at the shop, graffiti artist as well are able to purchase their paint for any of their artwork.

Passing the counter, you’ll find a nice corner to welcome guests and customers. Again you notice not only stickers but a whole lot of other accessory such as hats, t-shirts and fancy number plate holders.

For a while now, Stickerdump has been an official dealer of Fatlace, Hellaflush & Illest merchandise; all the original stuff straight from the U.S.

Inne and Michiel taught us how stickers are made and about the manual labour and patience which is needed to prepare thousands of stickers. The plotters pre-cut the stickers, but every little redundant needs to be cut out by hand.

Over here you see the steps of a sticker being created. You can imagine smaller logo’s or complex figueres are a pain in the arse. But Stickerdump.com does this work with all their love and passion for you.

It does mean there are always a lot of remains of stickers. This doesn’t go into the garbage bin, but is used for this large stickerball. Started with one piece of left over sticker, now grown into an almost unmovable ball.

This is what it looks like on the work table.

The most known bodywork stickers in the time attack scene are provided by them as well. The recognisable Jeroentje.nl logos. Sticker decoration of this size is only for special cusomers and after consultation.

But the electronic toycars of the Jeroentje.nl team needed this too, no problem.

So with orders from all over Europe, this company is succesful and growing. The shop looks amazing and what used to be a bakery, is now a creative and colourful looking sticker house. They took care of everything, even the awesome parking signs.

To stay updated with the progress, you just need to like their facebook page. They post all the big updates and news on their wall.

We would like to thank Inne and Michiel for welcoming us to their shop. Thank you for providing Wangan Warriors with all the stickers and your support so far. We wish you good luck in the future and we look forward to working with eachother in the future.

Let’s see. As mentioned in the year review blog, we’re now online with our new site for less than a year. The year 2011 is already in the past and after telling you a little something about the projects within the Wangan Warriors family it’s time to review some highlights from our blog. We’ve visited some cool events and meetings and have met some interesting people. Let us take you through some of our favourite moments.

The Dutch army’s training camp was used to for one session of the Paradigit ELE rally last year. Over here you see second place winner of that day Jeroen Swaanen in his Subaru Impreza WRC.

Time attacks are pretty fun to watch. The Zandvoort circuit gives a nice scenery on a sunny day to photograph. This is Jeroen of Jeroentje.nl Tuning in his FD during the Japanese Auto Festival time attack session past spring.

The only time we saw Albert Klok Jr. in action on the TT circuit of Assen was at the Automax Streetpower event last year. More action in 2012?

There was enough action to see at the last Time Attack session on Super Sunday. Again a sunny day at the lovely Zandvoort circuit. Lennard Wander was having fun as you can see.

Our friend Bruce Morris is already planning his trackdays for the Time Attack season of 2012. This guy is going to do some real damage on the Dutch track, I promise.

We are expecting a lot of action from these Time Attack titans in this years sessions.

So wether we were hunting for decent stanced Japanese cars…

…or visiting competition races, all the events had some interesting action in store for us.

Speaking of action. There are quite some interesting projects to follow on our forum so we got in contact with some of them to do a photoshoot for our blog. This is a rollingshot of Thomas’ awsome classic Corolla.

Another forummember and friend of the club is Joep. His S13 is probably one of the cleanest Silvia’s out there. Captured in a nice autumn scenery by fellow Wangan Warrior Paul.

This might look like a very clean S2K. Well, it is but it also has a sad story to it. The owner of this Honda and RPM Vision foreman Dennis Kussendrager had some bad luck during his holiday. His car got damaged badly by a hailstorm. Iceballs the size of tennisballs ruined a lot of body work. Luckily Dennis didn’t get hurt and he fixed up his car very well!

Everywhere we went, we’ve met nice people. Jonathan McBrien is one of those JDM enthusiasts who we’ve met at the German Nürburgring. His K20 powered Civic project car is still going through a lot of changes.

This beauty was also spotted at a parking area near the Nordschleife, Dan Timpsons cool ass Silvia. You must love it too! Both of these guys were visiting the German Eiffel just like us. Mutual interest? No, mutual passion.

Even overseas guys like Simon Bradford drove his 580bhp R32 GT-R over here to drive some trackdays.

The list goes on and on of cool cars which we photographed. Jobert Brouns goes all the way with his WRC replica Impreza. The ultimate rally rooter!

And since we are covering everything in and around the Netherlands, we come across a lot of different styles and all of them are great. So wheter we’re capturing a clean FD…

…or a classic such as this Corolla 1200. Each and every other car is unique in its own way.

My favourite car feature was this icon. The Honda NSX. I spent a whole afternoon with the owner to photograph this car in the right way. It deserves a certain level of care and love if you own it, even while photographing it.

One of my favourite shots of Vincent Roos this year. Also a NSX spotted at the Japanese Classic Sunday. A lovely sunny day with amazing cars.

We’re currently following some projects to keep you readers out there posted with all the awesomeness that is going on over here in our tiny country.

We will be visiting some more companies to show you how good the tuning level is of our domestic market.

This article does not come to an end, this isn’t all we’ve done and it surely isn’t going to be the last. In fact there is a hell of a lot more coming this year. We get inspired by all the reactions and nice feedback we have got and we promise that 2012 will be an awesome year for our blog, for our club and for the fans out there. Thanks for all the support.

Who said there is no Japanese car culture over here?

Having owned the S14a for 4.5 years I was running out of inspiration for the car. This lead me to search for a worthy new project to follow up with.

After giving it some well needed and long thoughts, I decided to move on to a new S-body, the S15 Spec S. I opted for a Spec S as I will be swapping a RB25DET engine into it.

Having consulted with some import companies and searching around by myself, I decided to take the big step and import a car on my own. I’ve seen it done before by fellow Wangan Warriors Skippy and Ruud. Searching around on the usual places like Pistonheads and Driftworks for some weeks, Peter ran across an ad of a S15 in Ireland. After mailing back and forth with the owner, I decided to buy the car and arrange the trip to pick it up.

December 9th 5.00am, the day and time Peter (PeeSx) and I left from our home city of Nijmegen in The Netherlands.

Excuse my sleepy head, it was 5am after all. After a 1.5 hour train ride toward Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, we got off the train, checked into our flight and waited 2 hours before we could board the plane. After a 30min delay we finally took off.

We landed in Cork, Ireland, 1.5 hours later. Luckily for us this is the same city where the S15 was located. Being picked up by the guy who sold me the car and his dad, we drove off to their home where we were pleasantly greeted by this view.

After some chit chat and the typical cup of tea, we did the business end of the sale and were ready to set off for the big part of the journey. The -long- drive home. With much traveling ahead, we decided to get the car filled up before we set off.

Our final goal of the day; Dublin, a 2.5 hour drive from Cork.
I must say driving a RHD car isn’t the hardest part. I’ve done that before in The Netherlands. But switching from LHD to RHD, from the right lane to the left lane and driving in a new country at the same time takes some getting used to.

We quickly got to the motorway and from there on things were much easier.

Peter had the time to enjoy the scenery of Ireland.

We decided to grab some food at a small restaurant before we continued on our journey.

After arriving in Dublin, we found out our ferry to Liverpool was running late. Quite the bummer but it gave us some time to walk around the city. We were able to leave the car on a guarded parking lot which belonged to the docks and we headed out to the city center..

..which turned out to be decorated for the holidays. We ended up on a holiday market where we enjoyed a proper hamburger off the grill.

Once we returned to the docks we checked in and were told the ferry was running even later. We started to fear for our Eurotunnel train connection the next day in England. We decided to just leave things as they where and hope we would make it it in time the next day.
Finally having boarded the ferry about 3 hours late we rushed to our cabin. We rented a cabin so would could grab some well needed sleep.

Waking up the next day, we docked at around 8:00. 2 hours later than expected. Having just a little over 5 hours to get from Liverpool to Folkestone, we jumped into the car and started driving.
England welcomed us with this nice sunrise while we left Liverpool.

Peter took over the wheel while we filled up the car again and drove the next part through England.

With Peter behind the wheel and 3.5 hours of non stop driving we made it to Folkestone. Pleasantly surprised we were even able catch an earlier train to France. This was due to the fact that we only had one 5min stop in the entire country. Back home we had calculated an extra hour for stops and a 50min buffer to get to the train. All this extra time was enough to make up for lost time on the ferry.

I took over the wheel again when we arrived in Calais, France, and drove the remainder of the trip.
From here on the trip was pretty much straight forward. No trains or ferry’s to catch anymore. Just driving the car home without having to rush.

After about 30min of driving we already entered Belgium, which was very noticable as the roads are terrible there. After 1.5 hours of shaking and potholes we finally crossed the Dutch border again at around 5.30pm. Driving for over 6 hour got us hungry so we decided to grab a ‘proper’ meal at the McDonalds that is located just at the border.

Having finished our meal we set off for the last hour and a half of driving to our home in Nijmegen. And so, after 39 hours, 1106km of driving and a whole lot of km’s by public transport, we returned home. It was a long but smooth trip with a great goal. Getting the S15 home.

Since the trip, the car has been imported to Holland officially and I started working on the RB25DET swap. Be sure to check out my project updates on the forum.

I don’t know where to start with this blog. A lot has happened in 2011. In 2010 we’ve decided to restructure our website and restyle the club logo. Since we have some graphic designers, photographers, webdesigners and a couple of inventive individuals within the Wangan Warriors familly, we thought it wouldn’t be a problem to realise this big change. As a matter of fact it did take a few months until everything was discussed, designed, organised and set for the release of the new website style and forum.
We also launched a new blog where we want to show you people some stuff that’s going on regarding the Japanese car scene in and around the Netherlands. Now, less than one year after the rebirth of the site we’ve featured some cool events and cars. We’ll show you some more blog highlights and plans for the site in an upcoming blog. For now, let’s talk about Wangan Warriors.

To begin with, most of us love projects and all the excitement and challenges that come with a build up of any car. In this photo you see John a.k.a. Skippy working on his RB25DET powered R32. At that moment we had just hoisted in the RB25 into the engine bay and finished up for that day. This year it will shine again like never before.

Johan, better known as the Barracuda or Kaptain Iglo is someone who has experienced many ups and downs in the past year but he has the character to continue until his goal is reached.

Patience and skill is the key to the succes of his project. Imagine that you have to wrap your own car with no practice what so ever. His Impreza has it’s very own story told in this blog

Two projects could continue after the break down of this AE86. All the component parts are used for the KP61 project of Kay and the AE86 you see in the back of Patrick. Both project cars have a lot of rust, as soon as that is fixed, the build up can start.

Dirty hands like these will do the trick!

Peter is a busy guy with his S13. Always looking for improvement and always sparkling with is flaked purple paint job. Lovely!

Noud a.k.a. Kypski did quite some laps on the Nordschleife this year. His driving skills improved a lot in my opinion. His RB25DET powered S13 is getting some love in the garage and will definitely burn rubber again in 2012.

Given that a certain quantity of Wangan Warriors is addicted to the Nurburgring and its environment, we’ve spent a lot of tiime over there in 2011. Besides the weekend and daytrips, some of us stayed there for a week this summer. Lovely holiday houses like these made our stay, whenever we weren’t cruising around or driving the track, very pleasant.

Kay made sure his daily driven Civic was track-ready for that holiday. It was a joy to see another Wangan Warrior on the famous Nürburgring.

This photo represents our love for that famous track. If we weren’t on it then we could spend hours watching cars come by and talk about it. Maybe even spot some cars to photograph when they roll up the parking area. Well captured by Noud.

Imported from Ireland, the latest Wangan Warriors project. Rob bought this S15 and decided to sell his S14a after years of fun with it. The S15 will be running a RB25DET.

Wangan Warriors has also welcomed two new members this year. Bob’s Glanza has almost 200bhp to move that light car around the corners.

Ruud also joined the family with his Supra. This one is already sold and Ruud is looking for another Japanese beauty to replace it with.

Most of us take projects very seriously and modify their cars a lot. Others keep it simple with a set of coilovers and some small ajustments. After all we’re one big family that shares ideas, creativity, knowledge, love for cars and friendship.

There’s enough to talk about regarding every project within Wangan Warriors. Just follow us on Facebook to stay updated with all the changes. One thing is certain; projects are going to being finished, blogs will be written along with some nice photography and the Japanese car scene will be represented by us in 2012.
We’ll see you guys out there!

Rising Sun Performance has been a trader on our forum since June this year. Fellow Wangan Warrior Rob and I concidered it was high time to pay them a visit to take you readers inside the shop. The RSP crew members have been working hard these past years to build the company to the powerhouse it is today. That will be a world-wide tuningshop for cars and parts from the Japanese market, sponsor of different clubs or forums and a familliar face at events or Japanese oriented meetings.

You’ll find the company in Malden near the city of Nijmegen and it’s noticeable by the large RSP Banner on the outside and probably a whole bunch of import Honda’s parked in front of the building.

They have a rather big working space with all the decent tools you need like a hidraulic lift, tyre changer wheel balancer, three watch-dogs and much more. The place is decorated with brand banners such as Tein suspension, Toyo Tyres, Sparco, Works, ACT and the list goes on and on.

This is the master office/entrance/hangout/coffeeroom, you name it. The place where all orders come in online or by phone and all the questions you have concerning parts, projects, service, prices or anything at all will be answered from this room. On this photo you see Ian and Tom.

Here you see Tonny working on his Honda S2000. It’s pretty much stock at the moment but it does have a almost complete facelift conversion.

In the corner some parst are stored for sale, projects and customers. For example this whole bunch of exhausts…

… and Tonny proudly showed me this J’s Racing Titanium FX-Pro exhaust.

Another decent S2K. This is Ian’s pride and joy wich is full of Spoon parts since the car was bought from one of the employees of Type One Garage, one of the Spoon dealerships from Japan. It has full ajustable Spoon suspension, Spoon LSD, Spoon clutch and rolling on SSR LM9 Vienna’s and many more goodies of course.

The F20C is out for maintenance and it looks pretty damn clean is it is right there. More power, extreme offset, repaint in the future? Who knows Ian is keeping it as a secret until his project is done.

There is definitely some stuff going on in here as you can see, cant wait to see te result and show you people this car in a full feature on our blog.

This is a special DC2. At first because any JDM integra rules…

… secondly it’s the first Dutch DC2 with a KA20A engine conversion built by Rising Sun Performance. This example is fully track prepared to do some damage on the tarmac.

Another highly appreciated Integra, the DC5. This is Tom’s car and he has some circuit ambitions with this car. The suspension has been upgraded with a set of Tein Mono Flex coilovers, Toyo R888 tyres on the front, FN2 Gearbox, J’s Racing 60RS Exhaust and some more modifications.

Enough to conquer the second place in the Semi Pro Street class during a Time Attack session on the TT circuit of Assen. And that for a first time track experience. Not bad! At the last Time Attack session of this year at Zandvoort, Tom won the third place in the Pro class.

So that’s it folks. This is Rising Sun Performance, the people behind this company and their cars. I’m looking forward to follow these projects and photograph them in the future. We’ll certainly keep everybody updated.

Rob and I would like to thank the RSP crew for their time and we will definitely meet again. It was a awfully rainy day and I certainly didn’t mind spending a few hours inside at Rising Sun Performance.

It’s almost a month now since our End of Year meeting in Oosterhout. The year 2011 is literally drawing to an end now and we would like to look back once more to the meeting. We’ve got so many nice reactions on our forum and Facebook. A lot of people posted their online photopages and Youtube slideshows on our Facebook page. Some of the visitors signed up on our forum so thanks for that! Now let’s take another look across the meeting site.

This is a tipical in your face picture. Don’t underestimate the potentials of these hairdresser’s cars. The owner Stefan is properly modifying his Miata. Circuit ambitions in the future?

One of the cleanest Levins out there with real SSR dori2′s. The owners is a forummember as well for quite a while now.

A nicely stanced S14a is an absolute pleasure to see and photograph.

A Lexus just needs a VIP look. This car has style, classiness and pure character. The small curtains inside topped it all off. Hope to see this car next year again.

This is the Civic Type R FN2 of another new forum member. This one is lowered with a set of KW Variant 1 coilovers and runs about 230 bhp.

Some people love to modify their cars in every detail others just like a little touch of pink and Hello Kitty.

Everybody remembers the thick fog but fortunately it didn’t interfere with the outcome of the visitors.

This Impreza outshined because of its sound and aggressive looks.

Early in the day of the meeting there were a few Polish visitors. They asked when the next Wangan Warrios meeting is to be organised and had to leave early. Cool to see enthousiasts from different countries. Most of the time there are quite a few visitors from Belgium. Next year more Polish visitors?

This Rally replica Toyota Corolla is a familiar car at the Wangan Warriors meetings. With that rollcage and exterior it looks damn aggressive. I think it is the 3rd time I’ve spotted this one. The owner is signed op to the forum as well.

I hope you guys enjoyed Vincent’s photographs and a review on the meeting a couple of weeks later.
See you next year!

The theme of my Subaru isn’t just a bunch of stickers and decals randomly put together, it’s a precise copy of the Sherman M4A3 which can be found on the McAullife square in Bastogne. The square has been named after Anthony McAuliffe, commander of the artillery component of the 101st airbrorne division. He spoke the legendary “NUTS!” when the Germans demanded the Americans to surrender, after they were being surrounded in the woods of Bastogne. The square was named Place McAuliffe as a tribute to general McAuliffe after the war.

Coincidentally, I have quite some links to this tank and the story behind it. As a little kid I’ve always been interested in WW2, especially D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of The Netherlands. I’ve also visited the above mentioned square a couple of time with the scouts and even with my girlfriend, where the picture that is shown above, is taken. Also, I’ve been using the nickname “Barracuda” for about 16 years on the Internet and as an ingame nickname.

Actually wrapping the Subaru in the army green colour it has now and putting the stickers and decals on weren’t what I planned on doing at first. The flat green color was chosen because I just wanted to make something more… unique. Flat black, flat white, everything has already been done so many times before…

When we were in the process of wrapping, my girlfriend saw a picture of the tank in a photo album and told me that it might look cool to put decals on the Subaru that are just like the ones on the Barracuda. And a plan was born. I decided to make the Subaru a rolling tribute to the tank in Bastogne, and the fallen soldiers that fought really hard to liberate Europe.

This Subaru started its automotive life back inearly 2000 in virgin white. But as the paint was going bad over the years, I’ve decided to wrap this car and call it The Barracuda in the spring of 2011. A how-to on wrapping a car can also be found on this webiste. I have adjusted a few things such as the font and the positioning of the stickers, however the decals completely match the ones on the tank in Bastogne.

The result of wrapping the car turned out to be amazing thanks to Vincent Roos, fellow Wangan Warrior and photographer who also shot these great photos.

Obviously, the engine hasn’t been left stock either. During my way over to the Nürburgring in October 2009, the stock engine gave its last breath and I started rebuilding another engine. What started off as wanting to do a couple of adjustments, turned into what you’re looking at right now.

The engine has been built with having a quick spool up and fast throttle response in mind. At first, the goal was to go for around 450 bhp but I’ve adjusted this goal to a lower 350 bhp. I would still be able to keep the stock 5 speed gear box instead of having to upgrade to a 6 speed gear box along with other serious adjustments. Want to know what has been changed? You can do so over here my member page. Here you will find a recently updated list with modifications.

The current engine management should deliver somewhere around 320 bhp on a weight of 1190 kilos. Resulting in a 0 to 60 (mph) / 100 (kmh) time of circa 4.4 seconds.

Interior wise, I’ve tried to be as minimalistic as possible with everything I need close to me. In order to get it like that I’ve made quite some custom parts myself. For example the gauge holder on the steering column, the display holder on the steering wheel, an aluminium centre console, lenghtened gear knob, power output in the glove box, etc.

The engine is controlled by an Apex’i Power FC and Commander, mapped by Joep en Ismail.

The aggressive look of the car is thanks to customised Morette headlights. Originally, these lights have two lamps per side, one for normal lights and one for high beam, however the lamps on the inside have been replaced by air ducts and the lamps on the outside are replaced by semi-clear H4 lights with city lights. The corner lights (originally city lights) aren’t being used anymore and have been spraypainted in the same colour as the lamp units.

The original STI spoiler on the trunk generates enough downforce to maintain a steady ride. At first I planned on going for the spoilerless look, but I missed quite some stability on high speed runs so I decided to put it back on.

As I’m writing this, the car has been partially taken apart as it’s waiting for a couple of updates. The engine will once again be taken out and apart to improve some things as well as giving the engine bay a good tidying. This means cleaning the plenum, respraying the strutbar, replace blue hoses by red hoses, a little wire tuck, rerouting of the fuel lines, adding a digital fuel pressure gauge, removing the Knocklink, upgrading the oil hoses of the catch can and an allround cleaning in the engine bay.

Here I would like to thank Vincent Roos and his father once again for taking the amazing pictures as well as all the help he has offered the past months! Amazing!

Well, not an actual delivery car, but it’s owned by the holder of an Italian restaurant. I remember my first encounter with the owner which was many years back. As always I was filling up my S13 with petrol and “someone” from the Italian restaurant across the street walked up to me and started asking me some questions. He certainly knew his stuff but at the time I didn’t know him. He told me he owned the restaurant and on top of that was the proud owner of an Evo Lancer. All of a sudden, we saw each other driving about more often, we greeted, had occasional chats when we both had time and my friends and I went over for pizza every now and then. Recently, when we were having another chit chat I asked him if he would be interested to be featured on our blog and luckily he was.

Looks good doesn’t it? And so does the restaurant. If you’re ever to visit Limburg or Nordrhein Westfalen, then you should really consider having dinner over at Il Genio’s. It’s situated on the Roermonder Straße 157 in Karken, a minute from the Dutch/German border. They have just renovated and expanded the building and it’s now nicer than ever. You can get anything from delicious pastas to very large pizzas if you’re very hungry.

As you can see, it looks rather stock from the outside. Other wheels, an aftermarket bonnet and an Invidia exhaust and various other small upgrades.

There was a bit of a story behind the exhaust. In Germany, everything has to be approved by the TÜV (more or less comparable to MOT). However, the police thought his wing was aftermarket because it wasn’t noted in the papers belonging to the car. Also, they fell over the exhaust and he had to have it checked at TÜV in a certain period of time. Luckily he did, at the cost though of buying and mounting a new exhaust.

Stoptech brakes help him stop quickly time after time after time. Rens and I were invited to drive along for a bit. He wanted to show us what the car was capable of. Going through every gear like mad and having amazing stopping power actually made me rather nauseous. That was a first time experience for me as well.

I’ve always had a weak for these fins. It gives the car just that extra touch.

I’m sure these canards help improve grip as the owner visits a track days every now and then like Spa Francourchamps or the Nürburgring.

From this aftermarket carbon fibre bonnet we’re going to have a look in the engine bay. The bonnet by the way really sits there for a reason. After our drive-along-run, I could literally see the “waves” of hot air rise up from under the bonnet which looked very cool.

As you can see no expenses have been spared with this carbon fibre air intake.

There it is. This engine is far from stock as it went from 2.0 litre to 2.3 litre and is being pushed by a massive turbo. The turbo runs at 2 bar constantly and that delivers the massive figures which are shown below.

It delivers a whopping 541.6 bhp and 647.4 Nm. Enough said.

How can we refuse a nice portrait like this.

It’s a really impressive car and whenever you see something like this in your rear view mirror, it’s just best to move to the right. And if it’s this car in particular just do so, you honestly don’t stand a chance.

As it was a very nice and sunny afternoon, we decided to do some rolling shots. Rens has very well captured the beauty of this car when it’s in action.

This photoshoot comes to an end at the spot where back in the days would be a toll booth. Luckily it’s much easier to access Germany nowadays which makes it easier for us to go over and enjoy a proper pizza.

This once again shows that a passion for cars can be found anywhere by anyone.

Thank you for taking your time even though you were very busy. We both really enjoyed shooting this car and of course the driving experience you gave us. Thanks again and I’m sure we’ll meet soon again!

Car aficionados can be found everywhere.

Car aficionados can be found everywhere. Even if you live in the smallest village, the guy you see once a month who lives at the end of your street might be building something serious. Paul and I travelled down to the very south of our little country to meet Joep, a modest guy who lives in a picturesque and serene village close to where The Netherlands meet Germany and Belgium. This area is known for its winding roads with steep slopes and tricky corners. An ideal environment for cyclists, motorcyclists and people who bought their exotic cars for touring only. Every now and then though, the still scenery is abruptly awoken; Joep decided to let his car out.

As you might have already seen on the Flickr page, this car still looks quite stock but it isn’t, not even close. I’ve always had a lot of respect for people who are able to make their cars stand out by only doing minor changes. When you see those cars, you know right away that they’re not stock, but it will take you a little bit of time to figure out what exactly has been left standard and what hasn’t.

This car has got quite some history to it as well. In fact, when Paul and I were taking shots, Joep was doing his first couple of kilometres with this engine, it had just run about 900 kilometres. What’s even more cool is that Joep rebuilt the engine himself, talk about craftsmanship! Not only does it look stunning, being programmed with Nistune it produces somewhere around 300 hp! A very nice number for a “simple” 1.8 litre engine.

Joep has always had an eye for detail and it shows in this picture. From freshly painted valve covers to resprayed heat shields and even shiney new bolts.

The cars appearance is very subtle and very delicate. The only thing that one will notice directly are the amazing wheels. They are Ultralite Nürburgring and are being stopped by Z32 calipers with Brembo brake discs both front and rear.

Another cool detail are the taillights. They are Lexus-look taillights, which are not much appreciated in the S13-scene, but by spraying them red, Joep has managed to give it a clean, sexy and modern look.

Perfect combination, being photographed while running in your new engine.

Have a look inside and you’ll see more of the fine detailing. In the glove box you won’t find old petrol station receipts or empty water bottles, that’s been replaced by an Apex’i multichecker and Phormula knock-analyser which have been built in very nicely.

“If I need fresh air, I’ll open a window.” Is what Joep must have thought when replacing the fan outlets by gauges that show boost, oil pressure and oil temperature.

I wonder if anyone is able to spot what is different to stock in this picture, other than the gauges and the steering wheel. Hint: Another very fine and delicate detail.

As I’m typing the repo, my respect for this car is growing even bigger. The longer you spend on analysing the details, the more you get to appreciate it. Who needs aftermarket bodykits and extremely powerfull engines when standing out can be this easy. You’ve done a great job on your S13, Joep. Definitely an icon on the Dutch highways.

Thanks for having us and please keep us updated with any progress!

So that was it people. The year 2011 is officially to an end in the Japanese automotive scene in the Netherlands. The city of Oosterhout was a magnet for Wangan Warriors meeting visitors. We are proud to say that, thanks to all of you, we’ve exeeded the vistitors quantity and counted just over 220 cars! The quality level of the cars outshined any other meeting or event I’ve visited this year.

A proper organisation was a necessity as we were expecting a bit over 150 cars. It was possible to use the same meeting location of last year but we wanted to attract the attention to the center area this year.

All sorts of cars rolled up the parking lot. From higly modified awesome Imprezas to ordinary daily drivers to exclusive classics.

Speaking of classics. It was the fist time in my life I saw a Suzuki SC100GX. To be fair I had never heard of it before but thanks to your presence at our meeting I was able to broaden my automotive horizon.

And not to forget the LHD Levin!

Belgium was well represented again ofcourse. One of the cool cars that our southern neighbours brought with them was this retro Honda Civic. Just amazing!

And since we featured a cool NSX last week. I was kind of hoping that a NSX would show up as well. And it did! The same white NSX as last year if I’m not mistaking?

Stickerbombs are getting pretty common in all car genres. Even stickerbomb-film exists. So stop saving stickers for years!

Clear statement made by this Impreza owner. I couldn’t agree more.

Stance is going to a whole other level these days. This cool 350Z is the living proof of that. But that wasn’t the only well stanced car at the meeting. A very cool VIP lexus was present as well!

This was one of my favourite cars at the meeting. He was also at our meeting in De Meern so it was cool to see it again in Oosterhout. Very nice Miata.

Many people were pleased with the attendance of the Honda S2K’s. Many credits to you guys. This particular S2000 outshined the most I think.

Not too many bonnets were opened. Or I was at the wrong place at the wrong time, who knows. This engine bay did got my attention. It looks very clean. Rising sun FTW!

Our very own member Johan a.k.a. Kapitein Iglo had his engine finally mapped. You’ve probably seen some cool video’s on our Facebook page. Quite some people checked out his Impreza and a lot of photographs were taken.

The fog made the meeting atmosphere kind of cosy. It didn’t bother to many visitors, so I’ve heared.

This picture tells a little bit more than what you’re probably seeing. There is some Wangan folly in this photo. Check out Peter with that sticker on his sunglasses. Forget the sticker, sunglasses on a day like this? And the always enthousiastic clubfriend Kevin posing for me. Make sure you check out his project page on our forum!

At the Wangan Warriors End of Year Meeting 2010 there were two NSXes present. I can recall my thoughts from back then. I was thinking that one day if I get the chance I would photograph that car on diffirent locations, with rollingshots and everything that corresponds with a decent photoshoot. Unaware of the fact that less than one year later that wish would be furfilled. I had the privilege of getting in touch with Eric Ooms, a proud NSX owner from Belgium.

As soon as I heard that Eric was intrested in a photoshoot for our blog, I was pretty psyched and needed to check out some locations for the shoot that very next day. Fellow Wangan Warrior John a.k.a. Skippy came along to assist where needed and to drive for rollingshots.

So we found a nice flat road to take some shots. We were lucky that the weather was so nice, it’s a beautifull sight to see the lengendary NSX in action.

With that view and the sound of the 3.2i Vtec engine is an absolute pleasure to witness. The engine isn’t stock anymore. It went tthrough some slight changes by mounting a Mugen intake manifold, other camshafts, Pro Alloy radiator and an extra oil cooler. It now runs about 320bhp.

The front brakes are upgraded with Move-It Brembo GT2′s.

The exterior of the NSX is partly responsable for it’s iconic status. This one has a WingsWest front lip and sideskirts from Downforce. That proper set of wheels are Volk Racing Challenge II GunMetal rims and that will be 18′ on the front and 19′ on the back with Kumho tyres.

Eric doesn’t like the lack of carbon fibre on his car. The exterior got styled with the carbon VIS-Racing bonnet…

…Type R rear spoiler and even the stock automatic antenna was replaced by this small electronic one from a Honda S2000. Well done!

It’s lowered with Bilstein’s and H&R springs which results in a hightreduction of 4 cm. So you can imagine why Eric doesn’t like bumpy roads. You’re damn right!

The stock seats where removed for a set of red Bride Brix II Racing seats…

… and also the steeringwheel was changed for this Momo sports version.

The warm sphere later in the afternoon made the view on the car more interesting. You can look at this lovely scene for days without losing any appetite or pleasure.

After the sun was almost set, we drove to another spot which gives a whole other impression to the car. It gave the Honda a much more agressive look.

The Grand Prix White paintwork is in contrast with the dark industrial environment.

It’s hard to quite photographing an impressive car like the Honda NSX. Like every day, this Sunday also came to an end and John and I drove back home with smiles on our faces. Cars like these make my love for automotive photography even greater and make sure I will stay enjoying it.

I’d like to thank the owner Eric Ooms again for his time. You’re on top of the foodchain with that NSX!

When Rens and I visited the Skylimit event at the Zolder Circuit we photographed two unique Skylines. Like Rens said in the R32 feature, Bruce Morris brought a few friends with him from the UK. Lisa Diamond was there too with her impressive Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R.

When we arrived at the parking lot we looked around and had a little chat with Bruce Morris. When Bruce was busy with a tyrechange, our attention was attracted by Lisa’s Skyline. It basically invited us to go over there and take a closer look.

After we found out that there was a RB30 under the bonnet we invited her for a photoshoot. Lisa has been the owner for several years and many things have changed during that time. She told me that the car still has to be mapped with this engine.

As you can see the exterior has been through quite a change. The idea behind the stickers is pretty simple: to outshine more during time attack sessions and track days. Lisa was a little bored of the simple black collour and needed some variation.

Another exterior amendment is this Nismo with an ATTKD spoiler extension.

The owner tries to keep the R33 as light as possible. The proof of that are these ultralite A-tech wheels with toyo R888 tyres.

As you can see the interiour is far from stock. It’s fully stripped. Lisa has a FIA licenced six point rollcage, some fancy suede GTR stitched handbrake and gear gaitor covers, Blitz electronic turbo timer…

… and a set of comfy Sparco Pro2000 bucket seats.

The stock gauge cluster is almost the only thing that has been kept stock.

The power that keeps this thing rolling lays in the enginebay and the SARD external fuelling system with 3 external pumps has been installed the upgrade the former fuelsystem. The suspension has been upgraded with GAB fully adjustable coilovers.

Check out all the Tomei, RSP and HKS goodies in the added speclist.

Garret GT4088r single turbo set-up for some extra air. This fine piece of technique runs thanks to the VIPEC engine management systeem.

Make sure you check all the little details in the speclist below the article. I would like to tank Lisa for here time. See you again on the tracks some day!

Do you remember Bruce Morris’ amazing R33 which we featured a while ago? Link Well Bruce decided to visit Belgium again to drive the Zolder Circuit and he brought a few friends with him. After a short visit to the mediacenter we found out that we couldn’t photograph next to the track. Unfortunately Belgium media rules are pretty stern. A little bit agravated Vincent and I walked over to the parkinglot. Over there we found a bunch of cool skylines. One of those was owned by Simon Bradford. He’s driving this amazing R32 GT-R. Enought to capture so our smiles where back!

I asked Simon what he was running under the bonnet and after some guessing he opened it up.

The GT-R isn’t running the normal RB26 but a converted RB27 stroker engine with 1000cc injectors and two nismo t04b Turbos. Pretty awesome! It has about 580bhp and 530Nm torque. With that information in mind, you’re probably wondering how it sounds, check out this video: Link

With this set up you obviously need some proper handling. The Ohlins suspension, titanium strutbrace under the bonnet and the whiteline front and back swaybars…

…combined with the six point rollcage keep the chassis stiff.

On the front the GT-R has K-sport 8 pots and the rear 6 pots brakes. The wheels are a set of 18inch tsw thruxton’s with toyo R888 for some decent grip on the track.

As the commander of this battleship, Simon of course did some laps on the Zolder circuit. Here he is on the long straight next to the pitlane. It’s quite a view though.

We didn’t have media acces but that doesn’t mean we weren’t searching for places to photograph from.

Simon captures his own action with this digital video camera mounted on the rollcage.

If we take a further look at the interior we’ll find an OMP steeringwheel, cobra susuka pro seats with 5 point trs harness and it’s unstripped.

The Greddy temperature meters are hidden in the glove compartiment. The rest of the interior in its neat condition kind of amazes me. Except for the broken fan on the dashboard. Well that’s the result of a stiff car on Belgium roads. It broke due of the vibrations.

It’s kind of Simon’s daily when it comes to track driving. He has another project car at home but the R32 is clean and pretty reliable on the roads.

It’s no problem to drive this thing to the Nurburgring, drive a few laps over there and drive it back to England without a brakedown. The dream of everyone!

We thank Simon, Bruce and all the other guys who were at the Zolder Circuit for a pleasant day. See you next year on the Dutch tracks!

The thing about automotive enthousiasm is that you’ll find it in every kind of way, generation and even maybe culture. What starts as just an ordinary hobby can blossom into an extensive ardour. The passion you’ll sometimes find in people is almost beyond words. I had the pleasure to meet up with a great rally fan and invited him for a photoshoot and do a little story about him and his Subaru Impreza 2005 WRC look.

Let me intoduce you to Jobert Brouns. His attraction lays with his Subaru Impreza with a WRC look and everything about rally. His car is his ongoing project. Probably like many other projects, it will never end.

The exterior has been reformed with a Aerys/L’aunsport WRC bodykit and a whole bunch of WRC style stickers.

The Subaru sits on gold 18” OZ Prodrive P1′s with Falken FK452 tyres. This model wheels aren’t in production anymore so they’ll be more exclusive in the future.

Like every real rally car you’ll find the names of the pilot and navigator with the flag of the country they’re representing. Mr. Brouns represents Limburg all the way!

The suspension also contains a set of Tein Flex coilovers with ajustable camberplates.

The two tone WRC version spoiler finishes the rear end of the car. This is probably the eyecatcher when you’re driving behind this evil machine.

A lot of stock parts have been removed to reach the goal of making this car look like a real rally car. Like the stock mirrors have been replaced with these carbon WRC ones.

When we take a look at the interior we also find some modifications. But I couldn’t mis the sparco/subaru jacket with al its matching colours and logos.

Combine that with a proud owner or any other hardcore rally fan and it might look a little like this.

The stock seats made place for two Cobra Sazuka bucketseats with 4 point Sablet harness to keep you in one place. The rest of the interior is fully stripped. Rollcage in the future?

Under the bonnet we find a pretty much stock engine with a HKS dump-valve.

I met up with Jobert again to capture this thing in action. Resulting in a few cool rollingshots.

And a little closer!

Afterwards we talked about different rally events across Europe and Jobert told us all kind of funny an cool stories. Sometimes the marchals can’t tell if he’s a visitor or a competator in the rally event and they send him all the way to the start of a parcour. This proves how succesfull the WRC look is.
He showed a bunch of project pictures and rally movies on his phone and we lingered at the photoshoot location until the sun was completely set. Ending a nice evening with a great rally enthousiast. It was a pleasure getting aquainted with you Jobert. Hopefully you’ll come to our end of year meeting in Oosterhout!
