Japanese Performance Show is a new concept in the UK. Not that it’s the first Japanese show, nor is it the first performance show but it’s a new direction of car show events because it’s the very first Japanese Performance Show with an indoor venue. Stijn and myself decided to do a trip to the UK to see what this event was all about. What made us try out a new event which was held for the very first time at a location we didn’t know and pretty far from our home? Was it worth the trip? I hope you’ll read further either way but I’ll give you the answer to that question right now. It was absolutely 100% worth making the trip to the UK for the JPShow2016. Continue reading
Imagine this for a second… You live in a country which is rich of culture, history, art, stunning nature, plenty of automotive activity and much more, yet you can’t seem to find your way here. You’re seeking for a different form of excitement and joy to fill those boring Sundays and weekends – the kind of pleasure you can’t seem to find close to home. I’m sure many of you can relate to this and begun looking for places beyond your natural environment. Continue reading
Buckle up boys and girls, grab your helmets and brace yourselves because we’re about to show you an event the Wangan Warriors way. I’m pumped with excitement to present another event through my viewfinder and this time it’s not a regular show that we find in the Lowlands. We’re taking you to a place where people wear viking helmets, a place where people burn more rubber in one track session than the entire Middle East in one year and a place where army tanks are decor of a car event. No, we’re not in Iraq, this is Gatebil! Continue reading
A Ferrari F40, a Lamborghini Countach, a McLaren F1, a Mazda 787B, a Ford GT40 with Gulf livery and last but certainly not least, a Honda NSX. Just a small selection of cars that graced the walls of my room as a kid. I say selection because I had much, much more car related stuff hanging on my walls. But times change and so do we. Because if I could choose any car from the posters I had hanging on my wall, it would be the NSX! And the 787B! And I wouldnt say no if someone gave me an F40 but the NSX would be on top of that list!
Every time I step into a new adventure I’m wondering what the final result will be of what I’ve captured and how close it comes to my satisfaction. Usually I have some sort of a plan because my regular work for Wangan Warriors is fairly limited to car features or event coverage. I can tell you that it gets easier every time I’m going out there shooting but I was a little insecure about the adventure I had lying in front of me. Purely how I would approach it photographically. I, as you do, like cars. I love to watch races, I love to wrench on cars, I love to photograph them and above all, I love to drive them. Driving a car still feels special to me, even after the hundreds of thousands of kilometres I’ve driven so far. The sheer pleasure of controlling a big powerful machine that stimulates all your senses is still a great feeling. Hearing the engine work, feeling the car through your spine, smelling all the fumes, ‘speaking’ with the car with your hands through the steering wheel. But best of all, it comes in all forms and shapes. Some spirited driving or just cruising around with the windows, or better yet the top down on a beautiful evening? You can do both with just one car. Continue reading
