NDC 2015 round 2 – Having fun

This post has been very long in the making. Many weeks in fact, with many many rewrites. Why? Because I seem to be unable to write an event report like my fellow bloggers here at Wangan Warriors. Their blogs, like Bill’s articles about King of Europe, read like a complete story. I usually read them at least twice, and I always get the feeling I was there too at an event.

Nürburgring Drift Cup and the love for drifting

One week from now, around the time of writing, on monday the 6th of april, the winner of the first round of the Nürburgring Drift Cup 2015 is crowned. With so little time left for the kickoff of my 2015 automotive season I decided to reflect a bit on the 2014 championship, because by now it shouldn’t be a surprise that the NDC and drifting in particular are meaning something to me.

Our EoY meet, the fifth edition

No one in his right mind would organise a car meet in november. By then, many cars are already in storage. Safely tucked away or completely disassembled for some modifications, both big and small. Nurburgring Drift Cup – Pushing the Limits

The last couple of months went by so fast I can’t even remember what I did during all those weeks. I travelled a lot, that’s for sure, and even to a track I never visited before. Nurburgring Drift Cup – Where diversity rules

In my article about the first round of the Nurburgring Drift Cup 2014 I told you something about how I ended up at the first round of this year’s championship. And well, I got hooked. The track, the smell of tyre smoke, the screaming engines, I was in heaven and when I arrived back home I immediately decided I had to go there another time.

Raising the bar: Dr. Frankenstein’s Miata

A while ago I drove to a remote part of The Netherlands. A part where they speak a funny language called Frisian, where space is abundant and where two brothers are building awesome cars. I went there to shoot one of those cars, an awesome Suzuki Swift with a Honda heart transplant and an attention to detail that was mind boggling.

Track full of surprises

I’m head over heels in love with drifting for a few years now. At first glance it looks like a useless pastime with way too much noise and stinky smoke, but actually it’s much more than that. It’s an art form, if you ask me. Driving your car in a way it was never supposed to, trying to find the perfect balance between grip and slide while moving forward at insane speeds, is a test of the abilities and courage of the driver.
